Not alot going on atm w/ this, waiting on parts.
Decided to fill the Russian selector markings in w/ some JB weld. I'll re-do the finish on the receiver tomorrow. http://i30.tinypic.com/2jaz3u1.jpg As well filled in the vent holes in the gas tube; http://i26.tinypic.com/55g7r.jpg |
Kokanee , you amaze me ....
keep it up! |
Recoated the receiver today, no more pesky russian markings;

Lookin' good there mate. Shellac turned out great, gas tube turned out excellent as well, now get working on the gas block ;)
IMO you may have overdid the coating on the receiver. Just my opinion. Ever consider adding Romanian markings somehow? Keep it up! |

Gas block. The part that connects the gas pipe to the barrel. Yours is still AK-47 type, you need AKM type. You can get close by simply removing the ring/sling loop, and sanding/milling off some metal. http://207.176.137.9/JKFPIC/B81100S.jpg Such as that. Cheers, Alex |
Oh I see where you're going w/ this. We'll see, I don't want to make the cleaning rod retaining lug too thin. I'm actually more ticked off I couldn't figure out a way to get a bayonet lug on there. SUppose one could always saw an AK74 gasblock and a AK47 gasblock in half and jbweld them together, although I would have serious reservations about it being strong enough to be gameable...
It's a crying shame there isn't a proper AKM gasblock/tube out there on the market as a drop in part.... |

Im really interested on the finish on the body. I might ot this to my 74 project if i can afford to get it off the ground this summer
|
Very nice. Congratulations.
But you have to change also front sight, not only gas block. AIMS74 has front sight like AK74 type [close]. Ak74 sight is better - otherwise you can't use bayonet. You can see this very well here: http://avtomats-in-action.com/pro19.html I'm also building an AIMS 74 now. Just finished front of the gun. Now i'm waiting for metal body ["element" - not so good like KA but it's ok - I have both bodies in my other replicas; RPK and Tabuk sniper]. Next week I will have this body [other parts are completed] and I will do romanian selektor markings and manufacturer markings on this body. Than we will compare our replicas. ;) |
