Stock TM uses a triangular peg as opposed to a slot like some of the aftermarket safety...it might just be wear somehow...

TaroBear August 16th, 2010 01:45

What, seriously, already? The thing is like, at most around a month, new out of the box. Ah well, was replacing it anyway. Anyway ever tried putting a silver safety on a black gun? Look horrendous? For that matter, what about slide catch and such as well?

By the way, Slono, your Hi Capa is awesome.

Yup, it's a pretty good tactical build. You should be fine on the field with it.

MY INFINITY GRIPS ARE DONE!... pics will be up shortly. Its not a 100% accurate representation since it's a prototype but I'll make improvements with every one I do.

Hey Brian, can you actually use CO2 for your hicapas? I know you can get one of those Madbull CO2 chargers.. If its possible, where do ppl normally go to get CO2?

Technically, yes. You can use CO2 on them, but I don't personally don't because my requirements exceed the limitations of CO2. There are a couple of reasons why I haven't considered it, which include:
  • It's a more expensive power source than propane
  • Extremely difficult to get oil in line with CO2
  • Inconsistent performance from CO2 12g powerlets
  • External tank solutions do not satisfy my requirements.
The Madbull CO2 gas chargers will only put enough CO2 in to your magazine to shoot one shot at blazing hot max power. The 2nd shot will probably barely cycle the slide. The 3rd shot (if there is one) will barely spit the BB out.

You may want to do more reading to understand how "High Pressured Air" works versus vaporization of liquid gas (propane in our case.)

Most CO2 that people use is in the form of the 12g powerlets. I get mine from Le Baron or Canadian Tire.

Yes, it does. It's standard practice across most industries to ship steel components with a layer of viscous oil or grease to protect it from the air.

Are the WE and KJ Works CO2 magazines interchangeable with the TM hicapa 5.1? I couldnt find a CO2 magazine specifically made for TM.

They will work on a TM, but the quality isn't there. Expect seals to fail sooner rather than later.

Hmm, the right side safety on my MEU has become kind of loose. Any reason why? Did I do something during reassembly?

Remove both sides and check fitment of the left side to the ride side... check for wobble. If wobble is big, then you may have just worn out the locking component (the triangle shape peg and hole). Replace it if you want to tighten it. Upgrade to steel if you want more durability and stiffness.

I'd say it's personal preference. I've done it, but also swapped the slide for a 2-Tone to match the scheme. If you're going for that 2-tone aesthetic scheme, 'd personally change up as many controls as could be afforded.

Here are the pictures. It doesn't appear to be as curvy in the pictures as it actually feels... it feels amazing, unless you're really used to the stock / STI grips, then you might have a problem with it because it fits the natural shape of your hand really well. Area where the middle finger goes is indented (quite noticeable by feel) and the well sanded corners near the trigger also add to the ergonomics. Parts near the backstrap have also been sanded to adapt your thumb a little better. Also, if you're wondering why the grip is a charcoal colour, its because I sprayed 4 coats of clear coat to protect it from natural elements... I overdid that part slightly.

Edit: These grips were really tough to work on so they're far from spotless. They were in terrible shape from a half-assed stippling job and I had to sand almost ever inch of it down. The edges were almost impossible to get without sanding too much of it away.

That looks awesome!

Yeah, like I said, it's purely personal preference. I would've gone a bit different direction with a build like that, but again, that's my preference.

That's a wicked job! Good work!

TaroBear August 17th, 2010 14:45

Yeah, I think I'll keep everything black except the barrel and the hammer.

Silver controls on a black gun...

granted the pistol was built for a silver slide thats still MIA....

Actually ordered a stainless barrel bushing to see how that will look...

Maybe two or three mags worth of BB's.

Slono August 19th, 2010 23:20

Does anybody have a regular 5.1 length hi-capa that boasts enormous power for its standard barrel length? I'm on a quest to make a powerful regular (5.1 length slide, 5.1" barrel length) sized hi-capa, and I'm wondering what combination you guys use to achieve great results. I know the possibilities are almost infinite, but please share your build along with its FPS!

I was going to do the same fricken thing but to buy a new grey grip. Ugh..

Are those real Infinity grip tapes or you cut them from the normal grip tapes?

I cut them.
I'm planning on making a grey grip really soon for my upcoming build.

Edit: I finished the two-tone SVI Infinity project.
