Messing around with some acrylic RAF Dark Green hobby paint and the airbrush on my mostly A&K Masada. It's a little more green then FG, but it's growing on me.

One thing about the acrylic paint, if you don't like how it turns out & as long as no clear coat has been applied, you can use Windex to wash it off.

My first attempt.

Thanks.

I used Krylon Fusion camo.

I masked all lenses, control knobs on the holosight, magwell, trigger "pit" and suppressor end.

Dusted Tan without netting, left it to dry.

Installed netting, then went in random patterns with OD and Brown, and again Tan in some spots.

Ninja_En_Short January 26th, 2014 10:23

What kind of netting is that ? I seem to spot some hexagon pattern on it that really interest me.

Aegiis January 26th, 2014 11:10

It's a mix.

-Fishnet stocking
-Netting from a tangerine wood case (plastic orange-reddish kind) that is the one seen at the top of the 1st picture.

Some parts of the nettings have been stretched, hence the geometric differences in the shapes.

I just came so hard.

I plan on doing one of my own rifles in the same style. Possibly over a hexpat design. Got lots of ideas brewing

My CA M24. This was how it looked. Need to get some new shots as its all banged up and worked in now.

Did my buddies SR25 up the other day. Turned out alright I think

Did some more DuraCoat experiments with their Parker colour. On its own it looked a little too glossy, so I mixed in some matt clear with it as opposed to just top coating. I think it turned out quite well . I did my 1911 frame and refinished my mid length barrel, front sight and handguard cap. The XM177 flash hider is actual parkerizing, which is very close to the DuraCoat .

Very cool. It's a beautiful flat finish.

Thanks:)
Mixing the matt clear with the color is something I'm currently testing out, but the initial results do look promising.
I recently replaced the original worn out medium tip on my old Badger airbrush with a new fine tip, (something I should have done ages ago). It allows greater control when spraying & gives a much nicer finish, very slight texture .
I'm still on a learning curve with applying the DuraCoat and still testing with it. Hard part is having to wait about 4 weeks for it to cure to see if my efforts in prep work & application worked out.
Practice, practice, practice ....
