TM VSR-10 G-SPEC vs. Maruzen APS-2 L96

I'm considering to buy my first bolt action rifle in the next few months and I was considering either one of these to be it. I have no idea which one is better since AEG's are my speciality not BA's, could some one help me with my situation?

Donster November 21st, 2007 21:48

ive held and shot the maruzen one. really nice. i believe Colin_S has one. ask him. between the two, i would take the L96, but thats only cause i like the look of it so much.

KillerCreed November 21st, 2007 21:49

thanks i'll ask him

bean November 21st, 2007 21:50

The vsr has one of the best hopups available. If you want to know how good the tm vsr is ask berkut he has my old one.

Yorkie November 21st, 2007 22:20

I have a USR11, the TM VSR10 clone, I can't say I have any complaints.

Damn sight cheaper too.

Yorkie.

ThunderCactus November 21st, 2007 22:29

bolt action is kind of useless at XT is it not?

purplestairs November 21st, 2007 22:29

Theyre on the same level pretty much. Just decide which looks better and get it a new spring.

Amos November 21st, 2007 22:30

You'd have to play outside if you wanted to use a bolt action...

Well, You wouldn't HAVE to...

THEDRAVEN November 21st, 2007 22:34

yeah theres no need for a bolt action when you dont play out doors lol

of course it is not for xt frank what do you think i am.. stupid? Don't answer that

KillerCreed November 21st, 2007 22:56

i've been wanting a bolt action for over 3.5 yrs but i seem to never follow through on my goal until now

tony123 November 21st, 2007 22:58

G-spec is a great gun. Pulled out of the box i was able to hit a 3" diameter cloth line pole 75' away. with no scope or sights.

Cushak November 21st, 2007 23:14

I've used my APS L96 in a game, but I've never used a VSR in a game. So basically - I can't really give you a decent comparison, but I've been very, VERY pleased with my L96. I've hit targets 30-40 meters away without having the time to properly get it sighted in, tweak the hop-up and get used to the flight path etc.

The hop-up on the L96 can give you troubles. Before I got mine, in my research I'd heard of many people experiencing the hop-up loosening up on them during a game after only a couple shots.

There's a couple after-market hop-ups you can get, but I just used an allan key cut to the right size and tape, and turned it into a 'fixed' hop-up.

I use CA M24 and Maruzen APS Type 96. Both are upgraded with PSS and PDI parts.

KillerCreed November 22nd, 2007 10:19

I've heard that CA bolt actions are either hit or miss is this true?

Kos-Mos November 22nd, 2007 13:54

I had a L96 upped to 550 FPS...

All stock except hop-chamber, barrel and cylinder set.
I would recommend you this one, just get the PDI chamber for this. Then you can use a tight bore made for any AEG.

I had this exact setup:

Maruzen APS2 type 96
OK 500FPS set (spring, piston and spring guide)
KM hard cylinder head
PDI Hop-chamber
Prometeus red hard hop-up sleeve
stock CA M14 innerbarrel

Could hit a 6" targer at about 100m or more.
I really recommend you the PDI hop chamber
There is actually 2 hop setting screws. You can fine tune if the bb tend to move left or right...

Haven't you been to like ONE outdoor game this season? lol
It's ok, there are some people with more guns that don't play at all.

one game a year sure doesn't warrent a bolt action...

I recently bought one... I can tell you, You're gonna get out-gunned by people with full auto...

+ There are many restrictions that are included with owning a bolt action in manitoba... like the minimum engagement range.

Last scrim I was at I wasn't able to kill some one because they ran into my minimum engagement range and I had no way of moving back any further...

Stick to XT guns... Bolt actions are not good for indoor plinking either..

Dracheous November 22nd, 2007 17:56

I voted VSR only because you said you're looking for a first. The VSR is much more simple in feel and design externally. Its also easier to get the parts to do your upgrades than the Maurazen, because you start running into "Out of Stock" all the freaking time when moding those APS guns. I has an APSII which is different externally buy the same inside.

The VSR will be nicer on your wallet, easier to get, and if you don't like it, easier to move on with ((resale)).

KillerCreed November 22nd, 2007 18:19

How does this sound:

VSR-10 G-SPEC and 3 mags with shipping for 695(taxes included)

Get a Crosman R38. I got one and I love it!

I wanted to get a bolt action too and try out sniping, but didn't want to shell out 500-600 bucks for one. R38's a great gun, depending on what scope you throw on her, and runs half the price or less, if you can find one!

I found on but too bad it is in the US. I checked all Canadian retailes and all the companies in Asia and no go. So, if I want one I have to get it from south of the border

Rukus November 27th, 2007 12:15

What fields let a sniper rifle on them that shoots up to 550 fps? I sure as hell wouldn't want to be shot with it.

Endymion November 27th, 2007 12:21

550fps with a 0.20g BB has the same energy as just a hair shy of 450fps with a 0.30g BB. With a minimum engagement range of 100ft (and with responsible players often playing it safe by shooting farther away) what you feel is less than taking a shot from a 400fps AEG at 20ft out.

Personally I'd rather take a single shot full on in my gear by a safe, responsible player with a hot gun than lit up by a newb with an upgraded (albeit field legal) gun.

Rukus November 27th, 2007 12:27

Most of the fields I play on your lucky to have a sight line of 10m because of all the trees. I think the only open grounded areas I've really played on was the ferry in Mission, or the Burma Forest Field wasn't too bad I guess. I'd just be worried about the guys who aren't responsible. That can do some damage.

Endymion November 27th, 2007 13:14

Although there's a generally accepted guideline for velocity limits in Canada, due diligence and common sense should be applied to whatever environment and players happen to be in your area and those limits should be adjusted accordingly. Those with access to 100+ acres of flat open terrain will play a different game than those in densely wooded areas - likewise close quarter areas both indoors and outdoors should have their own set of limitations. It's up to the hosts and the players to police those who play and behave in unfair or unsafe manners. If you have concerns about a certain player's responsibility, be sure to voice those concerns politely. Safety should always be first and foremost.

My vote is in.. I say G-spec I own one, I have upgraded it to 455 FPS with .3s. My total almost 900$, I have never shot a L96, however i have shot aps SV many times. The g-spec is perfect starter and can be transforum to a mean BA rifle. your Gspec deal u had there is not a bad deal at all.

I hope you enjoy the world of BA.

good to know thanks greeny

szetor November 30th, 2007 03:39

TM-M4A1 November 30th, 2007 19:29

i would say vsr10

skiingjunky07 December 1st, 2007 12:43

I personally have owned a TM Vsr10-Gspec, upgraded with a 130 spring. I personally was not impressed with its stock performence, and with the 130 spring installed, it impoved its fps (obviously), but i still was not impressed. I may have gotten one of the few tm lemons out there, but overall if you have to choose from one of those two guns go with the aps. To answer your question, Yes spring guns do get harder to cock when you mod them, and there really is nothing you can do about that. As for the trigger pull if it does get harder with the upgardes there is a knob that you can turn to adjust the trigger pull to make it lighter or heavier (a nice little touch).
I typically do not bash tm because 10 of my 15 aeg's (not counting gas or spring guns) are TM, and not one has given me a single problem.

Personally i would have to suggest the tanaka line of sniper rifles. I am personally looking at a tanaka m24 sws as one of my christmas presents. Tanakas have been chrono'd at 400-500fps stock, most of the later tanaka rifles provide pcs (pressure control system which lets you control the fps of the gun, a nice feature to have). The tanaka line of sniper rifles are famous for a light and precise bolt action movement. Granted they are gas and they do not care for cold weather all that much, but it didnt stop one of my friends from giving me a nice battle scare on my thigh during last winter at (around 150ft, never again will i just leave a leg popping out :) ) You most likely live in canada since this is "airsoft canada" were i live in USA virginia. It does get cold here, but not as cold as it gets in canada (thats why i go skiing in canada, or in colorado only :p ).

Overall i suggest lookign at the tanaka line of sniper rifles, but you really cant go wrong with the aps either.
