Where can I buy a very long cleaning rod? I need one for the TM PSG-1.
 

I bought my PSG-1 used and it didn't come with the cleaning rod. Additionally, I have searched many retailers and can't find any that even sell even normal sized cleaning rods. I've also searched for the real steel .22 rods, but they're not long enough for the beastly PSG-1.

Any ideas?

Go with the .22cal sets, as in two of them. They are cheap enough to buy (heck, up here at Canadian Tire the set costs maybe $8, so in CA, likely cheaper) two sets, and link together three or four sections to get the length you need.

bass pro. I picked up one of the RS rifle cleaning kits. had a 6mm adapter head and has 3 sections so it's pretty long. lots of cleaning swabs too for about $10

exactly how long do you need? worse case, get a cleaning kit and then buy another rod or cleaning kit so you have more sections to make it longer.

J. Dewey makes really nice one piece nylon coated rods. I would go with the .17 cal in a 36" . (about 30 USD) The plastic rods that come with some of the AEG's are .15 in diameter anyway.

Not a big fan of alum multi piece rods myself.

Tip for aluminum rods, go to an electronics store and buy heat shrink, and cover the rod sections with it, eliminates any scratching of the barrel's inner surface.

I came up with it after buying my first tightbore, even though it was stainless steel I wanted to reduce the chances of scratching, and since I had access to heat shrink.............. paste few years I've been using a C7 cleaning kit set up for airsoft in it's little pouch, even those steel rods I heatshrunk (the sections are shorter, so works great to carry in my gear while playing).

What I heard about Alum rods is that they can be abrasive. The black on your fingers you get from Aluminium is Oxide :rolleyes: (I've been told) and that rubbing in the barrel,can't be good.

I'm going to put my shrink wrapped C7 rods in my AS kit bag today. :D

True, it is aluminum oxide, but it's more a dusty film than anything like sandpaper. Treat them with gunoil and you won't have to worry about oxide forming.

Hehe, sounds like you are set, you knew what I was talking about. Actully with mine, I took a small pill bottle, put in some .22cal patches, a couple screw driver heads for my rifle, and put it in the location meant for the bottle of oil. And also put in a small flat screw driver handle where the chamber brush is supposed to be. Wish there were string ties on the thing, I just used some paracord to hold it all together. Everything fits in my M24's stock pouch.

Just dug out the kit and I found the Break Free (CLP) I knew I had but forgot where I saw it.Way too much kit (read,crap);) laying around.

Found a 4' piece of 1/4" shrink, I'm all set. :tup:
