Unjamming Rod
 

Sorry another noob question, since search doesn't have info on this.
Does anyone carry/sell spare AEG unjamming rods?

I want to cut one down to fit my pistol instead of using the AEG full lentgh.
If someone can point to the right direction that would be great.

Go to CT and buy the $8 .22cal cleaning rod set. The rod comes in three short pieces, and will work better for all your guns than the cheap-assed plastic rods that come with the guns.

I can agree with stalker. At Canadian Tire they sell barrel cleaning kits for about $15.00 I think. It comes with a set of screw together rods, so you can make it as long as you want. The .22 size works well in airsoft guns. Two things to remember #1: don't use "gun oil" in an airsoft gun, as it will eat away at any plastic/rubber ...ect. #2: don't push the cleaning rod through the hop-up part of the barrel assembly, it may tear your hop-up rubber.

If you're not taking the rod apart all the time...wrap a couple of layers of tape around each joint so any imperfections in the joint don't scratch up your barrel. You can also place of peice of partially shrunk heat shrink over the joints.

Your cleaning rod is for cleaning (d'uh) and as such it should itself be clean (d'uh again)...but A LOT of guys don't bother to wipe down the cleaning rod before they stick it down their barrel.

DO NOT use the pull type cleaning strings...that'll mess up your gun. Also, you should ideally turn off your hopup all the way before pushing a cleaning rod past it.

I'd aim for plastic vs. aluminum... Lots of building/hardware stores have
different material...Might be worth taking a look there for a cut off piece (which they'll often just give you).

Aside....Inner barrels are 6.00-6.10mm...usually 6.03 or 6.04mm for tightbores. 6mm translates to .243 cal. However .22cal rods...even if they list that they're really only for 0.22-0.25cal barrels..are more prevalent/cheaper. If you use a .243cal rod with thick patches it might be a really tight fit.

If one was worried about the joints scratching the inner barrel, you can heat shrink each section entirely leaving just the threads exposed. When you screw them together, it should butt up tight enough where no metal is exposed.

Or, like what I do, heat shrink about 1.5" on either end of each section. Shrink it completely and it will act as a spacer. If you're still worried but don't want to do the whole thing, add an inch of heat shrink to the middle of each section.

Tape, if left in the heat, can tend to ooze adhesive after a while.
