Splicing Wire

I need to splice some wire together. Should I use a butt connector or wrap the wire then solder?

you can use a butt connector.

I would wrap the wire and soder it, and add some heart shrink over it

That way I know I have a proper connection, and it is going to last

Solder > butt connector

Make sure your soldering iron heats the wires properly and draws solder into the wires versus melting a blob onto it.

A cold solder joint will crack and break on you.

Probably too late, but for future reference, this is an awesome way to splice wires, in case you didn't know.
