Desperate cause !

Alright, here is my problem : I Managed to have a Tanaka Arisaka type 99 long rifle shipped here... it arrived today and guess what it got bent in the shipping, not some cute bent barrel but an ugly disfigured one

Problem is : apart from getting any money back i can't replace it because there are none of these available anymore and no replacement parts for the outer barrel (probably the inner either but I'll worry about that later) is there ANYTHING I can do to straighten it or have it straightened ?

Shit bro, I love the Arisaka and have always wanted a real and airsoft one........ I feel for you man :(

I appreciate the feeling ! But if you aren't a unicorn and those feelings can magically mend it .... well it doesn't help hahaha ! (Got university exam tomorrow can't let myself be depressed lol)

If I were you, I would go to a body shop/custom car modification shop. They might have a large pipe bender for rollcages and might be able to straighten it without breaking it.

Call in advance, most people in stores/shop don't like people showing with guns unannounced.

yeah the guy above has a good idea. i work in a auto shop and send customers to "zoro" muffler. they do on site pipe bending and can get that done for you.

It might be a good idea, since no spare parts or gun are available it might be the best thing to do, I did not plan to bring the gun in hahaha ! only the barrel. Still I fear I might get a totally inaccurate 1000$ gun , can't do much but hope it works at that point.

Is that barrel zinc or steel? Steel might tolerate being rolled back but zinc will already be cracked, you just can't see it yet.

Spawn28 October 17th, 2012 20:59

Muffler shop as stated or i would try heating the bent area to the point of glowing and very carfully bent it back. if its zink as stated your fucked its most likely hairline cracked.

Oh yeah and "Holy fuckin bent barrel batman" its now a Bow

Fitzland October 18th, 2012 06:37

could make a bow of it ... the gun is 1m25 and unlucky me the barrel is not magnetized, so it might be zinc or alu, both are not known for being nice to bend and unbend yaaay ....

Kos-Mos October 18th, 2012 11:25

Well, try.

And if it does not work, find a machinist that loves guns.

vondnik October 19th, 2012 06:42

I'll have a look at it if you want. Aluminium can be bent back into place depending on type of material and the application of heat. Zinc on the other hand is crappy to work with in anny situation... except casting

Fitzland October 20th, 2012 12:35

Thank you for the offer it might be worthwhile to try it!

Wow, i did repair it hahaha, I filled it with sand, solidly strapped it to a piece of wood with a notch to keep the barrel straight, after 2 days it was just a little bent so i proceeded to the traditional barbarian way of doing things, hit it with a block of wood until it got strait .... and damn it worked ! Hahaha I can't believe it. I tried shooting with it, i know the internal barrel isn't perfectly straight but at 10m it's accurate... Can't shoot father right now because I lack the space

JSDF November 2nd, 2012 00:59

Wow, Arisaka type 99. It's very unfortunate how the Canada post screwed you over on the shipping. Anyhow if it is not shooting accurately, then you can always say it's the "last ditch" rifle :P
