Replacing Handgaurd with RIS

First off, I'm a newbie and don't know a lot when it comes to modifying guns. So... I really want to be able to attach things onto my rail like a grip and flashlight so I want to put like a quad rail or free float rail on but I don't know if it's possible.

My delta ring is kind of weird and has no barrel nut (idk what it's called, but the thing with teeth going around it.)

Mine looks like this:

What it's supposed to look like:

I don't know why mine is like that, maybe because its cheap? lol

But what I do want to know is, how can I put a rail system on.

Can I just buy one of those drop in systems and attach it?
- For a drop in system, don't I need that thing with the teeth so it stays in place?

Can I buy a free float system and attach it?
- Will I just need to cut the whole delta ring off?
- Will I need to take my front sight off?

Also, if I need to take off my front sight, how do I do that? I have looked in videos and I saw people taking some pins out of the two bottom holes, but mine didn't come with any in:

Thank you so much for your help!
I'm still a huge newb and am still learning!:D

The picture of your gun does not show.
I will assume that it's a TM-style barrel nut, looking like this:

Also, that second "what it should be like" is not actually what it should be. Most airsoft that have the dented ring will use a setup similar to real steel, where the dented ring is part of the nut, and the delta ring/spring are held in place with a large C-clip:

In any case, you can probably still install a RAS (replaces your stock plastic handguards) or free-float, as most free-float setups use a special barrel nut that replaces the delta ring.

OP has a ICS M4 front end. That's why the delta ring looks weird.

Some g&g's come with the funny multi piece delta ring too like in the second pic (only one showing for me)

It depends on the rail: some systems (like the Madbull DD rails) come with their own special barrel nut; others, like King Arms RAS, sometimes come with a barrel nut while other rails rely on the user having the correct delta ring/barrel nut on their gun. A delta ring or barrel nut are cheap and easily replaced as long as the threads on your gun (what brand is it? someone said ICS?) are compatible.

I see there's a ring with fake barrel nut "teeth" on it so that may be usable for certains rails (like a normal KAC RIS handguard etc).

You can remove the front sight and take the rings off. Don't cut them off. You'll have to remove the sight to put on the new barrel nut anyway.

There should be two pins in the front sight, below the barrel: just tap those out with a punch. Make sure you push them out in the right direction if they're directional (if they're roll pins one side might be tapered, that side goes out last; or a solid pin might have ridges on one end, that end goes out first).

Check for screws and stuff too, under the front sight (usually under where the sling swivel is mounted)

I can't see any screws or pins in my front sight, so I don't know how to take it off. Here's a picture of my front sight:

If it is an ICS, it does not have pins. It has a grub screw affixing the front sight to the barrel - recessed in the bayonet lug.

If it is an ICS, the receiver threading WILL present challenges. It uses Imperial measure threading (90% of the time, if not better) that will require a RS sized delta ring (G&P part, is my recommend) and a compatible RIS designed to use the delta ring as the rear attachment point.

I have a Madbull Noveske 7.25" RIS on my 10.3" .. i believe it was imperial threaded ICS, but by luck, i had the metric threaded Madbull Noveske nut force-threaded successfully onto the receiver threading - it could well have broken the receiver or stripped the threading if blind, dumb luck hadn't intervened in my ignorance.

My 14.5" ICS has a Mk18 7" Daniel Defense RIS mounted, of the type that uses the delta ring to secure the RIS. I used a G&P delta ring to replace the undersized/odd design ICS delta ring. The G&P is an imperial threaded delta ring. This M4 was put specifically together to carry a barrel mount M203, so the selected RIS was pretty much a mandatory requirement to make work.

It is doable for the ICS series, but you need the right combination of parts, and you will likely need to do some sanding and filing on the barrel flange (stock, or otherwise) to get the whole assembly to work nicely together. This isn't a newbie friendly procedure unless you are confident in yourself, your skills, and in use of hand-tools to modify things. You might be better off selling the ICS, and getting a TM compatible M4 version, or a G&P (or similar) already setup to your aesthetic desires, otherwise.

It's an AGM.

I bought this exact one: http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_inf...oducts_id=4539

That advertisement says that it is a TM-Style delta ring.

The image on the website isn't clear enough to see if the front sight is pinned.

This photo of it, zoomed in, seems to indicate that it is pinned.

One of the pins appears to already be missing, in your photo shown above. (above the sling swivel).

None of the holes have pins in them, they are dark because the angle of the photo doesn't go straight through.

Is it possible that it's like glued on or something?

Not really.

Make sure that they aren't hollow roll-pins.. sometimes they are very thin rolled sheet metal that needs to be carefully drifted out using a punch on edge, and patience.

DrunkenTeddy August 11th, 2013 09:42

I can see a hallow pin where the gas tube goes in (top middle) in your pic. I'd assume the other holes are the same, otherwise how would your sling mount be held on?

Kos-Mos August 11th, 2013 16:42

I can see the 2 roll-pins right under the barrel (theses two holt the barrel front-back usually in airsoft).

Same deal with the sling point, you have to remove it as there is usually a set screw hidden under.

You should be able to install just about any RAS that replaces the plastic guards. As for other option, if it comes with it's specific barrel nut, such as Danield Defence's, Noveske, JPRifles, URX etc (almost all free-float use their own setup).

You really should take the plastic handguards off and unscrew the barrel nut. Most "cheap" AEG use a 2-3 pieces barrel. If so, you don't even need to remove the front sight if you use a 7" or 10" with open-top rail kit.

daveyster August 18th, 2013 20:10

Ah you guys were right, the pins are hollow... not sure how to take them out without damaging theme though.

I found this M4SI handguard rail, and seems to be pretty cool.

Would my old style TM Delta Ring fit this or would I need to purchase a delta ring with the teeth (btw what do you call the delta rings with teeth?).

You can either a: press them out, or b: drift them out carefully with a rubber hammer and a punch, edge on to the roll pin.
