great radio, lots of online documentation on "how to", channels and emergency stations. Ebay you can get it for half the price.

Amazon, Ali-express and ebay. All for around $40.

Most guys I play with use the UV-5R. I've got a UV-82 because I preferred the slightly larger size and button layout. Get one and don't think twice.

Nothing wrong with the Baofeng radio, but the Wouxuns are better in my opinion. I've been running one for years and years now. Get a dual channel one, it makes life a lot easier. Also, the high gain antenna and a spare battery are good investments.

I've purchased two Baofengs from dealextreme, free shipping lots of options, and half the price of what your looking at!

I'll throw my nod for a Puxing 888, simply for voice notification for the channels and the easy knob select on top and ridiculous battery life.

There's also a Canadian dealer for Woxun:

You can also check the various ham radio retailers - they will likely sell either as both are officially for amateur radio operators.

Just a PSA with radios

I bought a high gain Nagoya antennae off Amazon for my Baofeng but it was a counterfeit one. I looked it up once I received it and found the packaging it came in was a known counterfeit style plus the known manufacturer markings on the antennae were missing.
