G&G sig 553 bent barrel... am I screwed?
I moved recently and somehow my barrel got bent pretty badly to the left. I have no idea where to get parts for this. Could i replace the inner barrel and somehow bend the external bareel back and have it work? Its such an odd piece that there is like no parts for it and the few they have are for ics. Is this gun totalled? Please tell me its somehow fixable

Is the other barrel metal or plastic? If metal, if you have a workbench and 2 vice grips and a rubber mallet with a wet towel I think you could fix the outer barrel. If the inner barrel is bent you're SOL and need to replace it.
It's going to be a bitch trying to true the outer but if you REALLY want to salvage it, you'll need to get some STRAIGHT rebar or some other metal rod to act as a baseline when you pummel it back into shape. My guess is that during moving and storage something shifted and it was sitting on your barrel for an extended amount of time. If it is indeed metal you can try bending it as close as possible to true but it will never be the same. If you don't think it's not worth the effort you'll have to source a part or take it to a real gunsmith for advice. |
you have to figure out where the bend is and if you can get to it to straighten it out. It's likely pot metal and it'll likely snap if you try and bend it back since it's a cast part.

Any authorized G&G dealer can get replacement parts. How long it takes depends on availability from G&G. The part number for your outer barrel is SG553-06.

Thanks guys, I managed to get a response from G&G, its gonna cost a fair bit for everything but it'll be worth it eventually. Gonna have to save up a bit first though, especially as I'll probably be replacing the inner barrel as well.

Is it bent after the gas block? Hard to tell for sure in the pics. You could just cut the bend off and turn it into a 552, if only until you can get a new barrel.
|
How do you figure he could do that? It's a once piece barrel.
|
You want me to explain to you how to cut and thread barrel?

And reattach the gas block somehow so the gun is usable?

Depends on where exactly it's bent.

Bring it to a machinist, and get one made out of steel ! Probably more expensive, but it would have the added realism and durability of a stronger part :P
