Buying Surplus

Personally, since it's only Airsoft I buy specific surplus items for Milsim, and for the rest I try to base my equipment off the pre-existing model with replicas or something that looks similar.

P.S. This was supposed to be a poll but I was too slow :(

Every week or two I usually drop a bill or so on gear... repro gear isnt worth the slave labour that went into it. The only people who defend cheap reproduction crap are those that havnt used real gear yet, absolutly no comparison...

I try to buy gear when i need it then when I want it. Hell, if I didn't have to eat and pay rent I have a lot more gear.

I use to buy surplus, but now I tend to buy new whenever possible (genuine articles). Mostly because I'm going more towards US kit now, and a lot of genuine stuff is available new (from BDUs to MOLLE pouches to armor and vests etc).

But I still do pickup the occasional used surplus, just cuz it's a killer deal or hard to find item/not available new (my recent purchase of Interceptor armor parts, for example).

its true, most of us start of thinking that we will put our money to best use, by building up an armoury of weapons. Then a few cammo choices.
Its not long untill you only get the gun because you need an excuse to purchase new kit!

Most of my kit is ex RAF issue kit that I had when I was serving, until of course my CADPAT's arrive :D

The last time i purchased surplus kit was back when I was in Cadets 11+ years ago, although I did buy my own boots when I was in the RAF as the issue DMS or assult boots are crap and not very comfortable

On going...I use it for camping, hiking Milsim and skirm.

And so the pile has grown...

I think three vests and 3 sets of BDUs are enough for me...I live in a tiny assed room....

I don't even have a gun yet and I find myself contantly looking for new gear, although at this point the only thing I really think I need is a hydration carrier and some decent gloves. I personally love surplus provided its still good quality.

With my affinity for Russian equipment, there's no choice but to get surplus. They don't make repro M21 vests or flora uniforms afaik :P

MadMorbius October 28th, 2006 21:45

I lost count....

When my loadout used to be DPM, most of it (except the aftermarket kit) was surplus. Now that I'm into CADPAT, there's very little surplus, most of it comes mint.

However I do have my fledgling Des' DPM set that has their previous owners names in them.

Unfortunatly for my wallet, I pass Dave's Surplus & Tactical on my way to work 3 days a week. Its often waaay to difficult to pass by without stopping in but I manage to hold out and only go in maybe once a week but I always come out with something. :p

I can't seem to stay out of the local surplus place here in Barrie, Angies. I spent over $400 in there in the last week on three seperate occasions. They know me by name now.

I use alot of DPCU (Aussie) kit, so I find my self ordering from Aussie surplus stores alot. I like the used look to my gear aswell, I hate looking like a sparkling toy. Never the less, I always buy good qaulity.
