This has probably been asked about 20 million times before
but where do you guys get your smoke grenades and how much do they usually go for

A popular solution is nautical distress smokes. As mentionned, Gryphon stocks them, though I think he's out right now. Alternativly, you can contact local surplus or nautical stores to source them.

Be warned though, distress smokes are exactly that, for distress situation. Depending on where you use them you might get into trouble. I'm not familiar enough with their legislation, so google your heart out.

Furthermore, if you ever get the idea of making them yourself, don't. You probably don't know exactly what you are doing (I'm not trying to insult you here :p), and the logistics and cost involved, let alone the effort, make is prohibitive. Besides, having seen the less than impressive result of a batch a while back, I'd just fork over the cash for a commercial product.

Lastly, check with local game organisers, pyro may or may not be allowed on the field.

EDIT3 (aaarg!): As for cost, I've seen them range from 5$ to 15$ depending on source, size, quantity etc. Usual median would be about 7.50$ to 10$.

One guy I know smoked up his whole house making one. Sugar burns INCREDIBLY hot, dump water on it and it wont go out. If it happens to catch fire while your trying to make them it can be VERY dangerous.

I do have some left but they're singles and odds and ends. However, Motopak only charges $5 for their dangerous goods fee so it might be feasible to ship a small quantity. I'll have to photograph them and I'll put them up on the post shortly.

And yes, I'm still working on alternatives from overseas. Communication from the factory side of things is always lacking and believe me, no one is more frustrated by it than I. :p I'm anticipating good things to happen by early next year.

Plus Potasium nitrate is VERY hard to get in sufficient quantity (without being suspected of terrorism)

These are the ones that I used, only problem with them is if you throw them and they hit the ground to hard they go out. Or if you slip one into a building to smoke them out they can put it out by shaking it, the only good thing is they are a cold burn so they won't start dry grass on fire.

Daves Surplus in Vancouver but I think you have but walk in to get them

I saw a grenade at a hobby shop in Lakefield and it used compressed gas and talkum powder tablets so the store owner said. It wasn't too expensive but the adapter for chargeing it up was.

From my meager understanding of the fabrication process, looks like you'll end up scraping the casserole you cook your mix in.

Besides, if you fuck up and the whole batch goes nuclear in your face, even after somehow managing to put out the flames (and I would willingly put my balls in a blender if it meant I didn't have to clean up after an extinguisher dump in my kitchen), you'll still have to have a one on one with your local fire captain to explain just why his precious time was wasted...

So yeah, the recipe is simple and does work, but processing it requires equipement and skills beyond your average person.

Just make sure to do it on the BBQ on really really low heat.

Just get some at 7$ each and avoid loosing half your kitchen and your hand.

Or just get a bunch of players who are smokers to puff really hard all in a group where you want smoke

I fear this may cut down the airsoft community drastically within 6 months
