Marui GBB : are they all good?
 

I am looking to buy one good Marui GBB that will last me quite a while (tired of leaky clone mags and subpar quality of other brands).

I was wondering if pretty much all Marui GBB are of very good quality (so I can just pick the one that I like) or are there any models I should stay away from? (older designs, known to have common failures, etc...).

their Hi-capas are pretty amazing.

I suggest you buy two and keep one stored for parts.

stay away from:
-pistols you can't find magazines for
-pistols you can't find spare parts for (including hop-up rubbers :D )

I'll try not to sound bias but TM Hicapas are great

- TM Hicapas are the norm for those who like to build race guns or people like me who like to use PISTOL PRIMARY (Pistolero time!)
- TM Xtreme is a novel item but as for practicality this thing eats up bullets fast, unless you are the type of person who likes to unload 5 shots into someone with a slight tap of a trigger
- TM 1911/MEU are sleek and sexy but the size of the mag just does not give enough power output near the last few shots since it cannot store alot of gas
- TM Deagle is powerful but I notice wear and tear of propane use tends show up more on this but it still is a beast
- TM Sigs seem to be good performers as well excpet I have seen my friend's magazine output valve get smashed in twice

One note you would be surprise at the range a TM Hicapa can reach even stock form with hopup all the way up and using 0.28 or 0.3g BBs

I'm highly biased on the TM Hicapa 5.1/4.3 model.

I've owned/used plenty of other brands/models...and have always gone back to the TM Hicapas.

Steve pretty much nailed it...those models are solid.
The only one he didn't touch on was the Glock.

A nice part about TM models is the unit to unit consistency. There's a very, very, very low lemon rate. There will be some...but I have actually yet to run into a BNIB/New TM GBB that hasn't worked well stock. Problems come from when guys try to improve/fix them.

Cracked slides happen to some and not to others. They certainly take a beating before giving up.

The TM 226 mags leak just like the rest of them...but tightening up the screws seem to help.

When the entire after-market is designed off of one companies guns... Who cares if their guns aren't good... There's thousands of parts to make it good (Without awful fitment issues to boot!)

if it's because of leaky mags, main seals, fix them. all you need is a $5.99 tube of blue gasket maker from CT and you can fix tons. I've done 6 this past week and field tested them. all holding full capacity without leaks

Keep the seal lube once in a while and the leak will not be a problem....if I've been storing a mag with no gas chances are next time I charge it it'll leak. But I take it apart and use the silicone oil on the seal, and the leak will go away long enough not to be a problem til I store it next time...I am wary about gasketing the seal because with higher pressure gas like propane, with their variation with temperature, it might be dangerously close to develop burst if it can't leak past the seal....there are stories of people trying to seal WE M4 leaks with gasket and the mag ends up blowing up in Taiwan.....

I've had TM Hi-Capa, 1911, Glock 26 and 17, and P226, and all of them are great. They system are all very similar so its easy to work on. You can not go wrong with them. Their older M9/Beretta 92 for me is a question mark. Though I think with the new variation-line they are introducing adjustable Hop-Up to them so that'll bring it up to date....

If you store Marui guns with gas in the mag, the chance of them developing a leak is very very small. And when they do start leaking, it's almost always caused by the base securing bolt unscrewing itself loose, as silicone oil tends to creep and penetrate through the threads, allowing the bolt to relax itself.

When gas is in the mag, the pressure exerted on the base provides enough tension against the bolt to prevent itself from releasing itself.

just don't 'cook' your mags nor store them filled to capacity for an extended period of time.

The TM glock 3rd gen is VERY similar in performance to the hi-capa 4.3
I only say 4.3 and NOT 5.1 is because the barrel is similar in length.

The 5.1 has more aftermarket parts than I have hairs on my head...

the TM is the best gun I've ever owned period.

ive owned 2 TM 5.1s 1 with a TK twist barrel in it... best gun EVER!! like cbc says its a good main.... now i have a TM MK23 pistole cause the plastic slide broke on my hicappa its got a tight bore.... let me tell you its accurate and will NEVER break cause the slide dose not move...

Looks like I will go for a hi-capa.

Are there any advantages or disadvantages to a 4.3 vs a 5.1? (beside the fact that there are more aftermarket parts for the 5.1)

I like silver slide (go figure with a callsign like mine) but I only find one in 4.3, not 5.1, hence my question.

5.1 is hard to find holster, and 4.3 is harder....lol
