From what I can see, the German version of the HK416 does not have the "D" designation or the "Heckler & Koch Defense Inc. Sterling VA". It says "Heckler & Koch GmbH" and "Made in Germany" on the other side of the receiver. I went on the German HK website, and though the pics are not high res, I'm pretty sure there are a few google images large enough to confirm the trades.
