I just use regular (non-rechargeable) CR123A batteries. They have a rated shelf-life of about 10 years (with a little overage). If I get through a 20-pack in 5 years, I'd be surprised. I buy a fresh 20-pack every 5 yrs or so.
Besides, in a SHTF scenario, you're not likely to have access to a wall-charger.
