what ratio of dsg? going to bet he's tripping the fuse due to excessive draw.
get an amp meter on it and measure the amperage draw.
are you sure the selector plate is making good contact with the selector microswitches?

I futz with V2s, V3s and V6s. I could be wrong... but probably, most likely not, as far as I know.
