Well done jimmy,
At last a radio with a real antenna, however i have some questions
How do you set ,change the channels when your in a game senario?I dont have time to open the shell and change frequencies. Can i see the frequencies in the display
Is it easy to swich from pmr to gmrs? agian without opening the shell.
How does the radio feel, does it feel solid or do i feel that there is a lose radio/weight in the spartan shell
What is the range of this radio in a mountain area

Hey,

First off it isn't available for salw anymore.

You cannot see the display nor change channels without opening the shell. There's no real screws, it's very easy to open it. You only remove the lower plastic cover by pushing it in and draging it down. Takes two seconds to do.

It is solid and are sturdy enough to use when crawling in mud and stuff.

About range, that's something you can't say because it depends on alot off factors such as what kind of channel you use, weather, how high up the antenna is and so on. I normally use my Thales whip antenna for longer distant communication.

Cheers.

I have made the decision that I will not make more of these mods due to the amount of job that needs to be done.

I have a few more pictures to share but that's all for me.

Unfortunately supporting PMR freqence in Europe is mission impossible. European user beware.

Sorry for the necropost

Just wondering if anyone else had luck making a PTT work for the Yaesu VX 7R like Jimmy did? I'm trying to make the 3 below items work together.

MSA Sordin
Nexus U94 PTT
Yaesu VX 7R

I also have a Yaesu THREADED/WATERPROOF cable to install in the Nexus PTT.

Also do I still need to change the MIC to a high Impedance?

Any help is greatly appreciated

Alternative to getting an AN/PRC-148 clone is to buy the PRC to XTS adapter. It will allow coonection to a Motorola XTS/Jedi radio. This radios can be found on ebay for $50 to $100. They are milspec radios and the MT/MTS have 64/128 ch.
