Aks are very accurate and have a reliable v3 mechbox.
Mp5s are a little less accurate due to shorter barrels and have a good-but-less-reliable-than-the-v3 V2box.

I still prefer mp5 due to size, look, size of mags, amount of accessories, etc.

Both are good guns. If you like bigger, get the ak.

I'm biased and say go AK.

I don't like the feel of any other gun, the handeling or working with another gun. I can work with another gun but, I feel sorta not right about it.

To me, it's like having plain fries, I much rather feel better about having a poutine AK

AK's have come fairly popular the past little while, lots of extra parts out there. You can customize it any way you like almost now a days.

Well if you're going to play more CQB and indoor than outdoor games get something that fits the game type you'll be playing (eg. M4, MP5K, or AK-74U instead of a full stock M16, MP5, or AK-47 for indoor games).

After that you can get 2 guns and make an outdoor and indoor setup.

Really though you're doing it right so far, pick whichever you think looks the coolest BUT take note on this. Whatever looks the most badass and what you like may not always be the most ergonomical or easy to handle. I may like the look of the FAMAS but when I fielded it that one day I found it to be "weird" and I didn't really like the ergonomics of it. It's probably better to check out the Ontario games section, join in on a game and ask to shoot other peoples guns, see a variety of guns and pick something that feels right to you.

Just a note. I jumped in right away and got an M4, I love it, but if I didn't like it I would have been left with an expensive BB gun that I didn't like to field rather than something that I like, and would be happy to field any day.

Don't think about buying right now at all. Once your AV goes through, you'll be able to get anything you want with patience and money.

EDIT: Sorry I was thinking about the AK74U (folding stock version like in Americas Army, I always thought it was just the AK74)...

dident think that accuracy had anything to do with barrel length due to reading a few threads about G&G UMg and other guns that they say barrel length has nothing to do with accurcay but that kinda dident make sense to me lol

i do much perfer the look of the ak better then the mp5.

anyone know why this was moved from gun disccusion to newbie tank? it aint a newbie questions its a thread disscussion about ak vs mp5 lol

anyone have a specfic ak they like?

ya i saw that thread. it was BS. length of inner barrel DOES affect accuracy and range. simple physics and crap. tighter barrels only add to it. you picked two polar opposite guns. it all depends on your play style. personally if you aren't playing indoor, then get the AK 74 with folding stock. that way, you can get nice range and accuracy and you can hit up bunkers and such with the folding stock. i personally just hate the look of the 47. the MP5 is really suitable for indoor stuff. It can be used for outdoor, but it wont perform nearly as well as a longer barreled AK 74 or 47.

In real life, i believe the 74 was chambered for the smaller 5.45x39mm round, as opposed to the AK, which was chambered for the 7.62x39mm round. the 74 was supposed to be the next evolution for the AK series. I personally prefer the 74 over the 47. I think the 74 has a longer barrel than the 47, but please dont quote me on that. im not to knowledgeable on the AK series. I personally like the AK-74 with wood handguards and folding stock.

For airsoft, other than barrel length, the guns are identical internally, with the same style of mechbox and hop-up unit etc etc. Only difference between the two guns airsoft wise is external appearance.

Here is some RS info:

Ak-74U (the sub machine gun version of the AK-74)

I REALLY suggest going to a game before buying anything, you will be able to hold different types of guns and get a feel for what suits you.

you might also be able to get age verified at a game which would allow you to access the buy and sell section here on this site, trust me it'll be worth it
