DPM Vs. Flecktarn for Canada's Boreal Forest?
What camo/kit would you rather have for the typical boreal forest in Canada where there's a mix of soft and hardwood trees, DPM or Flecktarn?

Both work well...so buy both, and wear which ever one feel like wearing that day. I have a set of both flecktarn and DPM, and it works for me.

Cadpat kills them both, although Flek is more effective than DPM.

We tested a lot of camo and Flecktarn 5 Farbendruck was simply the best...

By the way, does anyone know if the Germans issued variations of Flecktarn? I've seen some that seem to have more greens than others, while some seemed to be more brown dominant? Were there slight variations over the years like DPM?
(BTW, I'm not confusing it with Danish or Austrian Camo.....they were all German Flecktarn I saw) |

If you play in mossy, dark pine tree forest, woodland work great. But I agree, cadpat is better in all environnement.

jjronnie I know what you mean about the varation of Flecktarn. I have a tunic that has barely any black on the whole thing and then a jacket that is 30% black spots.
I would say the pattern changed, but I wonder if there is any "offical" difference. I know that Oakleaf would vary greatly, which is what the Germans had in WWII. This was because the way it was produced had no set pattern so it was a random thing being made per roll of cloth. Though I'd think that modern germany has found something more effiecient. |

Hi guys,
let me introduce myself ´cause it´s my first post in this forum. I am a collector of different camo-style-uniforms from Germany and got in this post by surfing on the net today. I am suprised that the german "Flecktarn" ist judged so positiv in foreign countries. Maybe I can answer to a few question about the german camo styles. First I would like to say, that I own the British (an even Dutch) DPM-Pattern Camosuits and some variations of the German Flecktarn. I haven´t really checked it in the field, but some european statements in literature and forums say, that the DPM works better on greater distances (greater than 200 meters) because the colored parts are bigger und break the lights better on greater distances than the german flecktarn. On nearby distances the german flecktarn ist mostly seen to work a little better than the DPM-Pattern. @ jjronnie: to your question about variations of german flecktarn: There are no official differences in the used patterns of the equipment used by the german army. But the green colors seem to get washed out more than the other used colors, so sometimes older suits look a little different. But there are many replicas und private build suits available which use the flecktarn pattern. There are even quite a lot of licensed products to that pattern-style. Maybe some of that variations you mentioned are build by private companies. The German Army officially uses only the 5 colored (green/brown/black) Flecktarn and the desert-style (sand/brown/green) called "Tropentarn" camo-pattern. If someone wants to see pictures of those, just contact me so I can send you some pics on that. (my email is: clabaster@web.de) greatings from germany Rizzo |
