Airsoft Claymores
Has anybody tried these yet? I picked one up a few weeks ago and I am sadly disappointed in it's performance. Either i can't get the damm thing to stay shut or when it does decide to shut the damm thing wont open with the remote detonator.
I've tried playing around with the trigger assembly by taking it apart and bending the release trigger part.. (mods that i read online).. but nothing i do can consistently seem to get it to work right.(shut when it's supposed too and open when it's supposed too) I guess the only sure way for it to open when i need it to is to use a trip wire.. but it is so hard to keep shut that setting up the wire is almost impossible.. especially with no time to set up a trip wire in a game. just overall disappointed i guess... I will say though that just having one on the playing field has changed the dynamics of the game.. people don't rush into shelters like they used to anymore.. i see them looking around for a wire.. bunched up at the door... all the while buying time for us to move in an unexpected side effect.. for what turns out to be a rather useless piece of plastic that is no more harmful then shouting bad words at the enemy!! |

Not Eye Safe, Pretty Boy Maximus on the field take his picture!

the one we had worked alright, 30ft range, 10 degree spread lol
remote stopped working when someone left it out in the rain, it was just annoying to carry around and set up |

I am actually building one right now.
Its going to be triggered by a remote. When its done I will show it off. Total cost is about $15 Figured it would be a fun toy for some games. |

i love the part of carrying it around and deploying it.. the feeling of pulling it out of the pouch and sticking it into the ground is pretty cool for now anyways.. (yea i just said pull it out and stick it in)
it's the trigger assembly sensitivity that makes the whole process shitty.. |

Sometimes just having it deployed and never tripped can be useful. Hell even a dud can do wonders For example......If i happened across your deployed claymore i might decide "hrmm, better not go that way" and then procede to change direction...........and walk straight into a ambush Slight of hand works wonders sometimes

Oh we do hate you, just never felt like wasting the time to give you a user title :P

These are great for snipers set up two or three on the rear flank so folks cant sneak up behind you while in your FFP.
Chaz id be interested in how to make cheap ones ran off a trip wire. Especially if they are smaller then the "real sized" ones

I will make sure to post up once I am done. I am waiting on some of the parts for the remote trigger to arrive before starting as I need to account for space before proceeding. If you play at HILL437 I am hoping to have to have it ready for the May 11th game.

Homemade Claymores sound awesome.

Well, going homemade is certainly cheaper. And from I have read about the store bought ones, they are not very consistent and break easy. Making it myself I can build it sturdy and in the end, a HELL of a lot cheaper!

The trigger mech on them is a little bit tempermental but after a little practice you can get it set every time, if it is not going off with the remote you didnt set the trigger up properly in my experiance.
For the remote to work you need to have it set so it is on a hair trigger and the remote doesnt have that great of a range. I found fishing line tripwire/pullwires worked best as with the remote you have to be there to spot the person coming into range or have someone else tell you when to detonate. They are also very limited in effective use as they have a fairly short range, you need a bottleneck or a area where ppl are definatly going to want to go, tying fishing line to the flag, bomb, or case proves most effective as ppl weren't looking for the claymore they were tunnel visioned on the object and got a BB shower when they grabbed it (especailly when they are under fire and rushing). The main biggest problem I had with the claymores is the abuse from other players, if you set up a tripwire it will get yanked/bounced around when they engage the tripline, which is completely understandable. My issue and the reason I stopped bringing mine out was when I had set it up a player (who was wearing full multicam and wearing his team's patch on his arm) saw it, ran straight for it and tried to punt it (like a football on a stand fieldgoal style) across the field. If it gets kicked or knocked around accedentally or as a result of being tripped it is understandable but this blatant disgregard for other peoples property and obvious attempt to BREAK the item convinced me to stop using them (at least at any open games).

The remote/receiver I have coming is rated for 150-200m in an open area. We will see how well it works.
Also, the trigger is a door lock motor. This thing has insane torque! I see no issues with it being under powered when it comes to opening up under the pressure of the springs. And by not going the trip wire route I don't have to worry about it getting yanked around. |

brother in law has one and actually runs around with it velcro-ed to his chest (without it popping open) and suicide bombs during games. not sure why urs won't stay closed. his is a bitch to get closed but with the safety pin in it's tight. when setting it up for remote detonation he leaves the pin in until set then pulls it and the unit stays shut until he pushes the button... maybe post a pic of the mechanism to get some suggestions?
