I just noticed that the two protective shields on the right side, (one in front of the bolt, one near the muzzle) are square like the Canadian version SMG C1, not rounded as seen on the L2A3 / Mk.4. The front sight looks like the SMG C1 too

Huh... and just the other day I was trying to come up with some sort of Star Wars kit, albeit for a Rebel trooper and their AR15-based blaster. I've always liked Stormtroopers more, though. I wonder how hard it would be (if it's even possible to begin with) to make a shorter magazine for the Sterling.

Ya you can make one, I just read about a guy who took a deactivated sterling and shortened the mag for his Star Wars blaster build. Google it, it is kinda interesting.
