Basic Idea Of Shimming?
Hey guys; Would someone out there care to give me/us a quick overview of the reasons for installing shims in airsoft mech box.
Is the idea to get rid of play between the gears, or is it to space the gears out , or is there another reason? I suspect this has been discussed before, but if you would be so kind as to review it one more time, it would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance Gordo

Improper shimming will wear your gears prematurely, and drain your battery quicker. |

Well from what i have been playing with you want enough space between gears so they dont rub against each other and you dont want to much play inside the mechbox so the gears dont grind. But your gears should spin freely inside the mechbox when the box is screwed together, I would have to say is the most time consuming thing you have to do. Or just buy a modular gear set, HEHE!

Isn't the smallest shim size only 0.1mm? You can only shim it to within a tenth of a millimeter, so a tiny amount of play is acceptable (less that 0.1mm).
