Drop leg pouches

Alrighty....I am looking for a drop leg pouch. What's everyone's opinion on the best one out there for the money?

Depends on what kind of mags you plan to use and how many. CQB or field use? Running and gunning with a leg dump pouch full of M16 locaps is a pain. I've stopped using mine and instead opted for hanging a Maxpedition Roly Poly from my web gear. This frees up my leg for running.

Good point. Same thing goes for drop leg subloads. Not recommended if you'll be doing lots of running. The only thing worse than running with a bunch of empty locaps on your leg are a bunch of loaded locaps on your leg.

Is why I bought some of those plastic mags to carry in my drop leg SMG pouch. I wanted to be able to have bug out gear, for times I want to go light and fast. Shed my gear and go with ammo for my MP5 and my G19 on the other leg.

For dump pouches go with the TAG or Maxpedition. The TAG has a cover top to prevent mags from falling out.

Maxpedition Rolly Polly (for mounting on your belt or webbing) or an Eagle SAS dump pouch (dropleg).

I had my eye on the medium Maxpedition one on Ebay, just never got around to getting it. Folds to a small package, expands to a good size to dumb stuff in. I'd persoanlly go for that one, just because it looks to be very small when folded, yet totally effective when opened.

I have one of these, it's an awesome bit of kit! Got it mounted on my maxpedition condor II right now, and it fits the bill when i have to stow something quick.

x2 (even including the Maxpedition Condor II, great pack). I use the medium Rolly Polly for a dump pouch during games (attached to belt) and I find I like that a lot better. It's just as easy to dump mags, and due to the fact that it's not attached to your leg it doesn't flop around or make loud noises when running. I was conerned that the mags might fall out, but I haven't had that happen yet *crosses fingers*.

Just in case, a Brother Label Maker is your best friend! I have all my mags, sniper, GBB and AEG, all labelled with Stalker and a number (helps to sort out which one jammed if it does).

Still want a Maxpedition dump pouch. Filling me with regret now.

Haha Kokanee, I too have the Condor . Popular piece of kit I guess...

For Rolly Polly's, the medium is the best size to get. The large one is a friggin laundry bag size and doesn't fold up nice and small.

As for keeping mags in, it's pretty dang good at that. There's the elastic drawstring you can tighten... I have mine a bit tight all the time so mags go in easy, but don't come out easy. Plus, the velcro lid that keeps it all rolled up when it's folded away, also is a lid for the bag when it's unfolded, so use the lid in conjunction that with the drawstring being partially tightened and it will do a wonderful job of keeping mags in.

I have my Rolly Polly on my CIRAS so I like to keep it folded up as much as possible to keep a lower profile for when I go prone and to keep it from inhibiting the full range of motion of my arms. So I use my Eagle SAS dropleg pouch primarily, then I unfold the Rolly Polly when that guy fills up.

This is for the guys running the Maxpedition Roly Poly. This tip will enable you to mount the Roly Poly without taking up additional PALS space. Taken from another board:

1.Install your pouch as normal with Malice Clips, but don't secure them yet:

2.Open and slide the Slik Clip over that slack:

3.Open and slide the Slik Clip over that slack:

4. Lock the Slik Clip to the Malice Clip as such:

5.Now, work the male end of the Malice Clip into the lock:

6.And lock it as shown:

7.Now, you can attach your Maxpedition Roly-Poly to the other side of the Slik Clip and lock it down:

8.Congratulations! You've attached your pouch without using up MOLLE real estate you may not have had!:
