Newbie Reporting In

Greetings;
I am brand new to the world of Airsoft. I was in a local hobby shop today when I had a discussion with one of the shop workers. We were talking about the CADPAD I was wearing and he asked where I got it, I had told him from the local army navy shop, and we started talking about paintball and Airsoft, I had told him I was looking at getting into Paintball, and he recommended I do not do paintball but rather take up Airsoft as it is much cheaper and alot more fun than Paintball....
I have started to buy some gear for when I was going to get into paintball..I have a camo outfit and a Paintball mask and a Paintball vest which I could modify for Airsoft, I just need a few accessories, anyway, I am looking at buying a starter kit from Canadian Tire, it is this package I am looking at buying to get me started off into Airsoft

Hello welcom to airsoft. Let me start off by saying anything from CanTire is crap. When I started airsofting i bought a set from wally-mart (same garbage) and regret wasting my money. Do yourself a favour, fill in your details like location and such and take the time to read some of the FAQs available in the forum section (I found it very helpful).

As far as a gun is concerned, I wouldn't waste any money on that junk. Attend some of the games and post a request for a gun "rental". That way you don't have a bad experience because you were completely out gunned. (I was out shot 10 to 1 with my wally junk)

Save your money, get yourself age verified (Assuming you're 18+) and many better solutions will be available.

Fist off, I'd suggest a decent vest, Second off: get age verified, it'll open a WHOLE lot of doors to the sport, such as our buy and sell sections that have TONS of useful stuff.

Getting age-verified is the ticket. Nothing you can get at Cdn Tire or Walmart is worthwhile gaming with. It's junk. Actually, calling it junk is an insult to junk...

Seriously, read the site for a while. Read the FAQs and such. Get familiar with things before buying a gun. You'll be glad you did.

Total waste of money. I personally would not touch anything crosman.

It was a half-truth about airsoft being cheaper... Starting out is very very expensive, but at about $20 per 5000 rounds, it seems to balance out eventually.

Go get yourself a good AEG (automatic electric gun). Good entry level ones that wont break when you take them out of the box start at around $350. ICS and G&G make half-clear guns (mostly metal with the restricted parts clear for import purposes). If you get yoruself Age Verified (see the FAQs) you can get pretty much any gun you want, and you gain access to the Used section, where deals are pretty good sometimes

That camo is good, but the vest might be ackward for airsoft.

IMHO airsoft guns from CanadianTire is a NO! They don't shoot well, they break... simply put - they are cheap. Overall it's just a waste of your time and money.

The BDU will be fine, although it looks like MARPAT and not CADPAT. The vest is useless for airsoft though. You need something that you can actually carry spare mags in. That ain't it...

For one it's CADPAT, not CADPAD, and second what you're wearing is not CADPAT.

Greetings, ex-paintballer and Canadian Tire employee here. As you may be aware (or should be) the paintball markers sold at Canadian Tire are garbage. The same is true with their airsoft guns. If they break (which they will, they're all plastic and low quality) there are no replacement parts, no returns and no warranty. Not to mention they are severely overpriced. Avoid these guns.
To obtain good quality airsoft guns you must be 18, which doesn't seem to be a problem. You may now be looking another step up at guns with clear bodies being sold at larger retailers (ie Cabelas). Although they do have a lower price than higher quality guns, you truly get what you pay for and you will not be satisfied. People say that they are good for beginners, but myself I have found this to not be the case, being burned by these so called "good enough" guns.
However, there are exceptions to the "clear-bodied guns are crap" rule. Recently mid-high range AEG manufacturers G&G and ICS have been producing quality guns with clear receivers for the canadian market. These are decent guns for beginners, many coming with batteries and other startup necessities.
Then we have full-coloured guns. Do not attempt to order these from abroad, they will be confiscated by customs with no reimbursement. These are only available in Canada through this website, the classifieds and retailers section. To obtain access to these sections you must be age verified. More info in link at the bottom of my post.
Now for your gear. Your BDU seems to be acceptable (although that is MARPAT, not CADPAT) but your load bearing equipment is simply not adaptable to airsoft. You need something that will hold magazines, not pods. And usually you hold most (but not all) of your gear on your chest (front).

Yea, he has marpat that is almost identical to mine.

Except that mines made out of 100% polyester, I think. Very durable.

I love my camo...Very comfortable..I also have a olive drab belclava, and I am working on getting a couple more items for my gaming. I am a military brat, born and raised in the military world, I am ex NAVY, now I am a mild mannered CATSA screening guard at the Halifax Airport keeping the friendly skies safe :P
Looking forward to getting my first taste of airsoft combat..
